IMCU modernizes authentication to boost security and customer satisfaction

Entersekt delivers best-in-class account takeover and fraud prevention for Q2 clients, with optimal user experiences. Our native integration with Q2 allows clients to modernize their authentication with our turnkey solution, quicker than with any other vendor.

Business challenge

Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU), a Q2 client, had been authenticating members transacting via desktop using Secure Access Codes (SACs) – akin to one-time PIN codes (OTPs). Apart from not being strong on security, the outdated method was creating a frustrating user experience for members.

Solution

Entersekt’s advanced authentication for Q2 replaced SACs. Included in the solution were Entersekt’s Trusted Devices technology and its Browser Authentication feature, Browser ID. Within less than two months of implementation, IMCU experienced tremendous success, with highlights including an 82% adoption rate, 192,000 frictionless logins, and operational cost savings of nearly $50,000.

“The addition of the browser registration has been great and allows our members seamless access while maintaining security.” – Weston Akard, Digital Banking Manager, IMCU

What is Browser Authentication?

Browser authentication enables financial institutions to protect banking customers when they’re transacting via a browser. Using cryptographic technology, it turns their browser into a strong possession factor, improving security, reducing friction and improving user privacy.

What is Browser ID?

Entersekt’s Browser ID, a feature of our Browser authentication, is a form of silent attestation that uses a cryptographic keypair to identify and trust the customer’s browser for authentication purposes. Once they’ve registered their device, future logins are frictionless.

What is a trusted device?

A trusted device refers to a device that a consumer uses frequently, like their laptop or mobile phone. When they use this device to conduct online banking, they can register it as a trusted device using Entersekt’s Browser ID feature, and thereafter enjoy a passwordless, and frictionless login experience.

How can I prevent account takeover fraud?

Banks can prevent account takeover (ATO) fraud by implementing solutions such as multi-factor authentication, biometric authentication or risk-based authentication.
